Have you ever wonder why is your business not making more money compared to other businesses out there? OR have you ever wonder why aren’t you making any money at all? I’d like to share with you one of the things that I’ve been pondering about these previous weeks.
I’d like to talk about how values and beliefs can actually make someone earn more or earn less. This applies basically in every business whether you’re an investor, freelance model, web developer, fisherman, pet walker, farmer, street vendor, broker, whatever business you’re in, you are included here.
I’m giving you here something to think about. After reading this, maybe you can get a pen and a piece of paper, try to assess and write things down so you get to know yourself more.
But first, let’s discuss..
What’s the difference between Values and Beliefs?
Values basically are the things that you think are important. Some people value their friends more than their parents and some people value their parents more than their friends. Get the idea?
There will come a time in where we will ask ourselves “what’s more important for us”, “what are the things that weigh more”, “which one is more valuable”, and etc.
The answers to these kind of questions are your set of values, or simply your values.
Beliefs on the other hand are the things you think is true even if sometimes it can’t be literally proven. Atheists believe that there is no God and religious people believe that there’s a God. This is a big topic of discussion and is a good example of what belief is.
Beliefs and values most of the time go hand in hand with each other. Your current set of beliefs may define the things you will value more and sometimes your current set of values will define what to believe.
Common self limiting beliefs you need to watch out
Whenever I hear people saying self limiting statements, I try to make them realize what they are saying because these self limiting lines are mostly subconscious. What I always want is to help other people become aware of it.
Simple awareness can result to big changes in our way of thinking and can help us in many different ways. I always push people to change their “language” and you’ll see what I mean with it later in this post.
Have you heard or used these lines before?
- I cannot do that
- He is better than me
- It is not my forte
- Rich people are bad
- It’s too late for me to learn
- I might be rejected
- I might fail
- I will never be successful
- That is hard for me
- I don’t have time
- I don’t know where to start
- I’ll stay like this for the rest of my life
If this sounds familiar to you and if you happen to use any of these lines, I encourage you to read more to change your perspective.
We sometimes say statements that we’re not even consciously aware of. These lines sometimes occur because of fears, laziness, and previous programs in our subconscious mind.
The key thing here is to be able to “catch yourself” whenever you say these lines. You need a conscious effort to catch yourself so you can tweak your “language” and change it to put a positive meaning to it.
Let’s get back to some of the previous lines and see how we can change them.
“I cannot do that” – If you might notice, this is a very closed statement. Saying this might program your mind that there’s no room for you to be able to do it, right? However if we say something like “I cannot do that yet”, you are giving yourself the chance to do it later.
See what we did there? It’s a simple and subtle change but the impact is big. Here’s another one.
“I might get rejected”, “I might fail” – These lines are typically result of fear and for us to be able to overcome it, it requires deeper understanding. Here’s a simple way to overcome the fear involved to be able to change our perspective.
If you know a bit of statistics, success is achieved by around 5-10% of people basically in different business fields. All of these successful people got rejected not just once, not just twice, but so many times YET they became successful.
If you will just think logically, rejection is a part of success and you need a lot of it. So instead if saying “I might be rejected” say something like “what can I do to reduce the risk of being rejected?” because you really cannot get away with it. Rejections and failures are a big part of success.
Let’s look at this one..
“I don’t know where to start” – Most of us know that beginning is always the hardest but sadly many people stop taking action because of this.
However if you’ll ask something like “What do i need to know to start?”, “Who do I need to start”, or something similar, you are forcing your mind to find solutions instead of simply stating “I don’t know where to start” and end up doing nothing, get it?
Again, it’s a small change but the effect it can give is very significant. Always try to filter the words that are coming out of your mouth. Simply changing your words and your language can actually help you earn more in your business. This may sound difficult for some but it will get easier if you practice it everyday.
Be careful on your words because you might be programming your subconscious mind with the negative thoughts. These negative programming might stop you in taking actions to earn more so beware.
