This next post maybe a bit technical to some but I did try to make the words simple for the consumption of general readers. We’ll be talking about Resonance (Ugong in tagalog), a physical property of objects, in which we will discuss first the physical meaning then we’ll jump to how we can use it in order to achieve success.
Let us start by stating a quote from a man with one of the most amazing minds ever lived, Nikola Tesla. He once said:
If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration.
For those who are not aware of who Nikola Tesla is, let me give you an idea. He’s a scientist who can make complicated designs inside his head and develop prototypes without making any hard copy blueprints. Crazy right?
He’s often not understood by many, calling him weird, because his technical knowledge is so advanced compared with others guys in his era. He’s been a great rival of the ever famous Thomas Edison. You can search online regarding their story.
Nikola Tesla is the root of many technological advancement and because of him we have:
- Alternating current
- Fluorescent bulb
- Remote Control
- Electric Motor
- Wireless Communication
- and A LOT more…
Yeah yeah. So what now? How can you use it into your life, business, studies, and etc?
Here’s the thing..
Ever since I studied Physics and understood it, one of the ideas that popped into my mind is that everything (in some way, somehow) is “connected” or better say “related”.
(I don’t want to sound geeky here but i can’t help to share it with you. Please bear with me :D)
In this article, I’d like to share with you my thoughts on what can I extract from Tesla’s quote that “If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration“.
Now I want to introduce to you this concept of “Resonance”. By definition from wikipedia,
In physics, resonance is the tendency of a system to oscillate with greater amplitude at some frequencies than at others. Frequencies at which the response amplitude is a relative maximum are known as the system’s resonance frequencies, or resonance frequencies.
I don’t know but it’s kinda funny to realize that I am having hard time finding examples that I want on the internet regarding resonance. I have found one close to what I want to show you. I’ll update this if I have found exactly what I want. In this video you can skip to 1:50 where the guy is doing #4 – Resonance Demonstration.
Let me explain to you in plain english what exactly is happening there. The guy in the video is using two tuning fork with the same “resonance frequency”. This means that both tuning fork will create the same “note” or “frequency” where they are tuned to. In the example’s case 256 Hz (unit of frequency Hertz).
When the guy tapped the tuning fork in his knees, the tuning fork vibrated at 256hz. Nothing fancy. We all know how to make that tuning fork ring.
Here’s the amazing part..
The tuning fork is also able to vibrate even without touching it or tapping it with other objects. How?
Sounds like magic? Well no..
A tuning fork will vibrate if it sense “same” frequency (or note) as its resonance frequency propagating in the air. The higher the volume (magnitude) of the sound, the greater the resonance.
Did you get the idea?
Say we line up several tuning forks with different resonance frequency and then we will ring one tuning fork in our hand, the tuning fork with the same resonance frequency will vibrate. How much vibration? It depends on factors such as distance, the magnitude of the source, the material used, etc. But one thing is for sure, it will not vibrate as loud as the source. It will always vibrate on a lower magnitude.
Now.. how can we use the concept of Resonance in achieving Success?
Think of this…
Let’s focus on the last image and let us analyze.
What if those tuning forks are people?
What if the vibrations they create are topics they talk about?
Imagine a conference room with somebody talking on the front. Most audiences will listen but not all will resonate on what the speaker is saying. Audiences with the same frequency as the speaker will likely agree with the speaker.
Let’s see more examples..
During my elementary school days, even in high school and college, I had this observation of faction in classrooms.
The noisy ones tend to be with each other.
The geeky ones tend to go with each other.
Those who play computer games are always together.
The sporty ones are always there with each other.
The band mates are always together.
Do you know what are they resonating about? Simple. Their common interests. From the old saying:
Birds of the same feathers, Flock together.
Now you want to become successful in your life? Resonate with the successful ones!
You want to be one of the smart guys in the class? Resonate with the smart ones.
You want to learn a new skill? Resonate with the skilled ones!
You want to learn how to forgive? Resonate with the forgiving ones.
You want to learn how to speak a new language? Resonate with people who are good at that language.
It is very important that you should pick carefully those people whom you are listening to as they can be a big factor to either make you or break you.
Tell me who your friends are and I’ll tell you who you are.
Those people who you’re hanging with everyday are vital factors in achieving your goals. Remember that bad company corrupts good character. If you are surrounded of people with loser’s mindset, most likely, you will adapt their reasoning, characters and the principles they follow.
Again, carefully pick those people whom you surround yourself with.
Spend less time talking with those who are negative about your dreams, those who are saying you can’t, those who don’t have goals of their own, those who have negative mindset, those who love to procrastinate, those people who are very complaining, and etc.
Hopefully, now that you’re almost done reading this, you are now realizing the power of the word resonance in your life that you need to apply it immediately. Start setting your goals, make plans, prioritize, and take actions right away! Find those people who have the same frequency as you and same goal as you as they are the ones who can help you achieve your success basically in any field of your interest.
