Being able to earn full time income with blogging has completely changed my life. Now, I’m earning multiple folds than my previous job and I am able to spend my time the way I want it. Blogging gave me the opportunity to focus more on the important things in my life. If you want to achieve how to become a full time blogger, keep on reading.
I know a lot of successful bloggers who are earning huge amount of money with their blogs every month. All of them are now enjoying the fruits of their hard work. Most of them are now fulfilling their #travelgoals without being troubled what to eat for the next day.
Deciding to start your own blog today has a TON of benefits.
If you still have your day job, don’t worry. I did this blogging thing myself while having a full time job as well.
If you’re still doubtful about it, let me tell you it is possible.
Back when I was in my corporate job, I thought of creating my company, a website development agency. I quit my job after almost 2 years of working there and do freelancing instead.
On my journey of creating my online agency, I stumbled upon several web development projects that has something to do with blogs.
After realizing many things, I asked myself “Why am I working for these bloggers and internet marketers if I can do blogging and internet marketing myself?”. That’s the time I started creating my own blogs.
I do have several failed blogs but after a year of tinkering, I was already making full-time income from it.
Here’s a sample of my previous earnings with one monetization model:
Because of this, a lot of people now are asking me how to do it, how to get started with this blogging thing. I really cannot answer all questions one by one so I decided to write this post. You can check out other articles about blogging in this site to learn more.
How to become a full time blogger and finally quit your day job?
1. Create a Blogging Plan
You cannot simply quit your job and jump into full time blogging right away. You need to create a plan.
Just like what many business people say, “Failing to plan, is planning to fail”. To speed up your success, proper planning is very much necessary.
Here are some things you need to consider before you can start blogging.
- What are you going to blog about?
- How are you going to monetize your blog?
- How much monthly earnings do you need in order to finally quit your job?
- How much money you need as an emergency funds?
- What will be your short term and long term plans for your life and and your blog?
There are many things you can consider during the process of your planning. You can get your spreadsheet open and write down all things that are important to you and arrange every item based on prioritization.
Planning is a way for you to see the big picture of the story you want to create. It’s a way to lay everything in front of you. This way, you can identify what to do and what not to do.
You’ll be able to execute things smoothly if you have a plan. Just properly prioritize things, manage your time accordingly, and execute consistently.
2. Determine What to Blog about
With blogging, you cannot simply write all things that come into your head. Again, you want to position yourself where you can win, and where you can win fast.
Keep this in mind..
If you want to become a full time blogger, I strongly recommend to create a blog around topics you are passionate about. You can create a blog about your hobby, topic you are interested in, your field of expertise, or other topics you think you can write something about.
Creating a blog within these boundaries will make your blog more fun and something you can enjoy. This is very important because you don’t want your blog to be something you need to force yourself.
To help you out, here’s a list of blog topic ideas you can write about:
- Hobbies and Interest
One of the best thing about blogging is it can be anything you can think of. Imagination is your limit. 🙂
3. Start Setting Up Your blog
You can never make a passive income with blogging if you’re not going to build one. You can always dream of earning money while sleeping. But for as long as you’re not taking any actions, you’re not going to have it.
Fortunately, setting up a blog is a lot easier now. (I wrote an easy step-by-step guide below. Check that one out!)
You don’t need to write codes to blog. You can create one in just couple of clicks and in matter of minutes. Yep, that’s how fast you can create a blog today.
Today, you don’t need technical skills to change the content of your article, the looks of your blog, and the functionalities. Most of these things are already made for you so you can use them the most convenient way possible.
Basically, if you’re familiar with Ms Word or other text editor software, you can blog. That’s how easy it is today!
(If you’re a Filipino and you think your English is not good enough to start a blog, that’s not an excuse either. Better read I’m Not Good in English, Can I Still Blog?)
So the next step is to actually get your hands dirty with it.
Many people are teaching ways on how you can make money with blogs but for as long as you’re not creating one, tips like these are basically useless, right?
Once you are ready to take action, you can follow this simple procedure on how you can easily setup your blog with bluehost in less than an hour. You can reach me through the contact page if you have something else to ask. 🙂
4. Publish High Quality Content
One of the core things a blogger should spend his time with is to study the target audience. You need to research what your target readers’ needs and wants so you can give them the content they want and need.
You don’t want to spend your time writing things that will not benefit your readers. Else, you will be wasting your time writing for no one.
A quality content is something that resonates with your readers. This should sink into your system that the best contents are the ones that keep readers and fans on your blog. Your goal is to make your readers crave for more valuable information they can read and consume.
Here are some guidelines you can follow:
Research is a must – For you to know what topics to write about, you need to research. You can jump into forums or related social media groups so you can see what your target audience are talking bout, their questions, experiences, and etc.
This way, you can make a stronger connection with your readers because you know that what you are writing about highly resonates with them.
Write as if you’re just speaking – Again, as what I’ve said with some of my posts about blogging, I really do not like reading “dry words”. What I mean with “dry words” are articles that don’t have emotion.
Journalism has it’s own purpose. Yes, I agree that it’s an intelligent way to write informative stuff but it’s not the type of writing style that works for me and my audience.
If you think it will work for you, then go for it. However, I’ve already seen a lot of successful bloggers who write in conversational tone as if they’re just speaking in front of you.
Regularly edit your content – I’m not a good writer. Most of the posts I initially publish in my blogs have typo errors. I sometimes write blogs for the sake that I need to publish something.
You need to publish. Don’t aim for perfection with your posts. You can always edit them some other time anyways, right?
I got bunch of groggy moments when writing blogs but I need to discipline myself to publish posts regularly.
Whenever I edit posts, I check sentences with poor grammar, spelling errors, and flow. These three are my main agenda whenever I’m in “edit” mode.
5. Love what you’re doing
I still can’t imagine that I will enjoy this blogging thing. I admit that I really hate writing but what makes me stay are the other things that are incorporated in writing blogs.
If you love sharing things, this will be fun and easy for you.
The happiness I can get from my readers’ response are more than enough to cover for my boredom with writing. There are a lot of other things you can enjoy because blogging is not only about writing, it is only a part of it.
With blogging, you can learn a lot of things, meet new people, inspire others, and many more. Enjoying things will make everything else a lot easier and stress free.
Try to look at the kids playing on the streets. They don’t get tired playing all day long. You know why? Because they simply enjoy and love what they’re doing.
You can apply this not just in blogging but in many other aspects of life as well.
6. Network with other bloggers
If you want t become a full time blogger, making friends with other bloggers in your chosen topic is a must. No man is an island. This is true in life, business, and in blogging too.
Some bloggers see other bloggers as threat but it’s actually not. There’s a mutual benefit between bloggers in the same topic. You can share each other’s posts that are valuable for both your readers. This way, you can both gain more readership from each other’s blog traffic.
Making friends with other webmasters can help you learn more things. You can share tips with each other and help each other in times of troubles. This is also one of the things people like about blogging, meeting new friends.
7. Monetize your blog
There’s no way you can become a full time blogger if you’re not earning from it. There are many ways on how you can monetize your blog.
I previously made an article on Ways how you can monetize your blog. You can check it for more information.
Here’s another post that can help you build your passive income streams: Building Passive Income – The Right Perspective.
8. Improve page views
No matter how good your posts may be, for as long as there’s no one reading it, you cannot make full time income from it. This one will be your main concern with your blogging career.
Don’t worry, there are a lot of ways so you can continually improve your blog’s page views and here are some of it.
Post regularly – Some are doing this once a week and some twice a week. Whatever your schedule may be, you need to post regularly. Failure to post for weeks or months may cause your readers to forget about you.
Social media sites – There are a lot of social media websites where you can promote your posts. If you can reach out other influencer on social media with a lot of followers, a single share from their pages will give you tons of page views.
You can checkout major social media sites such as Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Snapchat, Reddit, Youtube, and many more.
Guest post – This is another great way to gain readership. If you already have friends in your chosen topic, you can send guest post to their blogs so you can get new readers.
SEO – (Search Engine Optimization) There are tons of resources on the internet on how you can do SEO. I cannot teach you everything regarding SEO here. Just remember the basic rule to always optimize your off-page and on-page ranking factors whenever you publish a new post.
Make your site easy to navigate – Whenever your readers want to read more from your site, they’ll look for links to other posts. Always make sure to design your site’s navigation menu to look intuitive. Add related links within your content and after the article.
Produce catchy headlines – One of the factors that influences people to read your posts are headlines. Always make sure to edit your headlines to catch your readers attention to gain more readers.
So that’s it!
This is the outline on how you can become a full time blogger. It takes a lot of learning and work specially if you’re just starting out. Once you get the hang of it, everything will become automatic.
The opportunity to create big income depends on how you treat your blog. The more you’re serious about it, the more it can give you serious earnings.
