A lot of people use the line “I did not graduate from college” as an excuse for having jobs or works they don’t like and are low-paying. We really cannot blame people to use this as an excuse because the society, the great majority, programmed our minds to think this way.
We should realize that the current setup of traditional education is really left behind. How we acquire knowledge, how we use technology, and the direction of how people live are changing insanely fast. If you are 18 to 25 years old, you are in your best age and time to choose what work and life you want to have in the coming years.
There’s so much opportunity and power the technology is giving us. Today is not the time to make excuses and complain about the bad things that happened to you in the past. Today is not the time to blame your parents for not sending you in college.
The basic things you need to learn is already covered in the K-12 program. You can make your decision what to do with your life after graduating in senior high. Look for opportunities in the real world. Look for those people who you want to become to give you guide what things to learn and what actions to take.
Engineering, Medicine, Law, Accounting, and other courses that need certifications or board exams are the fields of study where it is a must for you to continue your college degree. If you want to pursue anything related to Information Technology, Business, Marketing, and the likes, going to college is optional.
Disclaimer: Please don’t get me wrong with this one. I’m not encouraging you to not get a college degree because if you have the capability to do so why deprive yourself? It’s actually a good thing if you can finish a degree you like.
Be thankful if your parents can send you in college. Just like what other people say, finishing college and having a diploma is one of the gifts you can give to your parents. I respect that. I myself am a college graduate. Just take whatever course you want to pursue and consider the things that are written in this post.
This article is for those people who are worrying about their future, those don’t have the capacity to finish college. In this post, I’ll give you my insights how you can make a difference and still succeed even if you’re not able to go to college.
Reasons Why it is Okay To Not Have Any College Degree
1. You can learn on your own. There are a lot of resources online today where you can learn on your own. If you don’t have the money but have the eagerness to study, you can always research what you want online.
If you don’t have any computer or internet connection, here’s what you can do to learn. Apply for any job that fits your age, a job that don’t require much. There’s a lot of job you can take as a student. The idea is to simply earn just enough to sustain your daily needs and alongside of it is to spend some of the money surfing the net and print reading materials.
If you have friends where you can go for browsing the internet or search for learning materials, that can help you. You can also ask for other people to give you their old books that are related to what you want to pursue. There’s a lot of ways you can do to get all the learning materials you need. Don’t be lazy, don’t make excuse. Do it.
Another thing Id’ like to add is you can learn in your own pace. If you’re a fast learner, you can be successful sooner than anybody else in your batch. Just immediately take action and execute all the things you’ve learned.
2. You can already build your business while learning. If I were to go back in college, I might try making a blog about prototyping circuits, electronics, programming, music, piano, and things about how to learn fast. These are the things that I’m most interested in back then.
If I learned about blogging during my college days, I might already have a business after I graduated. If you think you already know what you really want to do in your life, why not blog about things inline with it?
Here’s a tip. If you’re an out-of-school youth and you’ve already figured out what you want, study the things that are inline with your plan. Have the laser-like efforts in learning and achieving your goals. You’ll see, you will be able to surpass those guys who took college.
3. Deal with real-life experiences ahead of time. Most of the college graduates have this idealistic mindset of thinking that they will end up having a high-paying job after they graduate. This is just not real.
The real thing is there’s a low chance of landing on your dream job in your first job application. What many people do is they jump from one job to another until such time they’re happy with their salary and company (which rarely happens).
If you’re an out-of-school youth, you will experience these things ahead of time. You’ll get smarter in life ahead of everybody else in your batch. Don’t worry if you struggle because it’s always a part of the journey. What you need to do is to keep on learning and taking actions that are inline with your goals.
Here’s my final words to this post..
We should always know the purpose why we do the things we’re doing. The main reason why people go to college is to have a better job and better salary. You might hate me for this but the next reason I can think of are dogma and tradition.
If you will just think of this, there’s a lot of opportunity outside the path of college. Don’t just get a degree for nothing! Most of the students’ goal is to get a degree which often leads to nowhere. They’re not planning beyond college life.
There’s more than a million of college graduates today in the Philippines that are jobless. How about that? I’d rather learn how to create ice candies and scale my income by expanding my network in schools or in company canteens.
Your goal should be to create a stable and scalable income after graduating in college. If you’re an out-of-school youth, your goal should be the same thing but you need to learn fast, plan properly, and execute with laser-like focus. You can earn while learning and there’s no time wasted.
You just need to do it, take the responsibility and make no excuse.
But please excuse me for this post for I might not be able to deliver my thoughts properly because I am not really feeling well. Still, thank you for reading! If you got suggestions, reactions, or something to add, feel free to put it on the comments section below.
