“I’m not good in English. Blogging is not for me.” This is one of the most common statements I hear from people and the most common reason why until today they’re not starting their blogs.
In this post, I’ll try to give you some insights and some things to consider so you can start creating your own blog soon. If you still got questions, kindly message me through the contact page of this site.
First of all..
1. Writing is a lot easier than speaking.
There are a lot of people out there who are only high school graduates but managed to train themselves and speak English very well.
If you will just think about it, conversing in English is lot harder compared to writing. It takes a lot of courage to speak in a different language than it is to write.
Speaking requires faster thinking and high presence of mind. You don’t want something laughable to come out of your mouth. When you say something wrong, there’s no way you can ever change and fix it.
With writing, you can do unlimited amount of proofreading before hitting the publish button. When you write something with wrong grammar, you can easily go to your dashboard and edit the area of your post with wrong grammar and that’s it!
You can learn this way. Just accept every criticism in a positive manner and eventually you’ll get better at your craft.
2. You are in the Philippines.
If you’re living in the Philippines, English language is a subject that is taught from grade school, high school, and even up to college.
There is no excuse especially if you have a college degree. Remember your reports, projects, and thesis? You’ve written all of those things in English.
3. Basic English is enough.
Many people fear that their English vocabulary is not enough and that they only know basic English. Most of the beginners think that they need to write things like literature. LOL. A big no.
To tell you frankly..
It’s actually a good thing. Using plain English makes your blog reach more readers. Not all people appreciate deep, fancy, and flowery words so it’s actually wiser to use plain and simple English.
4. Don’t worry about the tone of your posts.
You don’t necessarily need to write with a very formal tone. You can simply use your own voice in your posts. Bloggers who write as if they’re just talking are the ones that actually make better results.
Actually, I’m not fan of bloggers who write too formal or some sort of journalistic type of thing. Formal writing maybe a more educated type of writing, no question about it, but I’m bored reading dry words. If you know what I mean.
5. Google is your friend
Whenever you’re doubtful about your grammar, you can always check google how to properly use words like “their & they’re, your & you’re, were and we’re” and other spelling or grammatical errors that bother you.
You can even check the exact phrase you are writing by simply enclosing the phrase you’re searching for in google. Click here to see what I mean.
When you scroll down, you will notice the highlighted phrase you’re searching for. When you see search results like this, chances are, what you’re writing is fine. Somebody used that phrase before and therefore you can use it too. 🙂
I guess the points I’ve shown you in this post are enough to make you realize that not being good in English is never a valid reason to not start your own blog.
I started blogging basically with zero idea how to write a blog and what to blog about. Still, I started anyways because I know I don’t need perfect skills to get started but I need to get started to perfect my skills. Do you realize that?
Despite the lack of knowledge, I manage to create streams of passive income from my blogs and it’s now my main source of income. Blogging made me live the life I want. You just need to get started, learn along the way, fail along the way, and earn big along the way.
To tell you honestly, I’m still struggling with what I’m doing right now. But I’m pushing myself to learn more and practice more so I can become better at it every single day.
I hope I shared with you some things that you can think about. If you want to know more about blogging, you can check the blogging category for more information. If you still have doubts or questions that are lingering in your mind, lets discuss it in the comment section below.
