Failure to answer these questions will only increase your chance of failure. If you want to succeed and earn big, digest everything that is written here.
So without further ado, here are..
4 Important Questions to Answer Before Starting A Profitable Blog
1. Why are you doing this?
First thing you need to ask your self is this. I always tell people that you need to establish strong reasons before doing any life-changing activity that will take time and will require patience.
The more you dig deeper, the better. The more reasons you can associate with every action, even better.
Some people blog as a hobby and some for more serious reasons. For the business minded, they see blogging as an opportunity to earn full time passive income. To gain financial freedom, more time with their loved ones, and more time for important matters of life.
Are you doing this to become a digital nomad? being able to earn while traveling? earn even just using your smartphone? earn anywhere for as long as there’s internet connection? It’s all up to you. YOU know who you are and YOU know what you want.
What’s your goal? How do you imagine your life having success with blogging?
This is super important. When you feel like giving up, remember the reasons why you started. These reasons will give you the motivation to push through when facing hard times.
2. What are you going to write about?
One of the things you need to take into consideration is your blog’s niche. If you want to expedite your blogging’s success, your blog should be talking about closely related topics. Else, you are ruining your blog.
If you decided to talk about pets, don’t talk about cars, travel, or other random topics. However, you can still talk about something like handling pets inside the car or handling pets while traveling.
You can be as creative as you want but the idea is don’t post articles that are out of your blog’s core topics.
To help you with this, here’s a list of popular topics you can blog about.
- Body Building
- Travel Itineraries
- DIY How To
- School Hacks
- Electronics DIYs
- Survival Hacks
- Financial Literacy
- Hobbies and Interest
- Viral News
Also, there area lot of types of posts you can write about.
- List Articles
- Frequently Asked Questions
- Expert Advice
- Personal Stories
- Featured People
- Checklist and To-Do’s
- Podcast Show Notes
- Guest Posts
Different niche may have different monetization strategy that is more effective. One may be more profitable with Ad Placements and others maybe better with affiliate offers, selling your products, or selling your own services.
You need to do some research what will work best for your blog. For a more detailed info about blog monetization strategies, you can check out this post.
3. Who are your target audience?
Many people started their blogs without doing any planning and research. Guess what? most of them failed. Never let this happen to your site. You don’t want to just put up a blog and later on realize that no one cares about what you write.
We want to put our blogs in a winning position. To do that, it is a must for us to do our homework. Before betting all-in with your chosen topic, take time to do some keyword research and market research.
There are a lot of tools you can use out there. You can check different social media sites and forums to check whether there are people interested with your chosen topic. If there are engaged communities in your niche, it’s already a good sign of profitability.
You can also do keyword research. There’s a free tool called google keyword planner where you can view how many users search for a particular keyword every month.
There’s a lot of free and paid tools out there but to tell you honestly, using the free ones are actually enough to succeed. You can avail premium tools later when you’re already earning.
Here are other things you need to do some research about:
- Jargon or language the community use
- Problems in the niche
- Their social status
- Job, work, or business
Studying what your audience truly wants can help you with #2 write valuable contents that has more connection. This can make you earn more money than simply publishing random stuffs on your blog.
4. What Domain Name to use?
Just like what I mentioned above, everything I listed here are the core things I do where I allot significant amount of time. Try to ask successful bloggers who managed to put up several successful websites. I can guarantee that they will agree with what I am saying here.
By the way, if you’re still not aware what a Domain Name is, it’s basically the website address you type on your browser. For example, google.com, powerpinoys.com and facebook.com.
Domain name is a way for your readers to remember your blog. Basically, one of the key points here is to make your Domain Name short as possible so it can be easily remembered. You don’t want to lose readers because they find.
Make sure your domain name is closely related with your chosen topic. Dog training articles inside a website named hoopsters.com is kinda weird, right? But dog training articles in a website called petwiki.com, pethub.com, kennelclub.com and other appropriate website names makes it sound more legit.
With the ever increasing number of blogs out there, you don’t want your blog’s name to sound weird and suspicious. The blogging game in the next decade is about authority, value, context, trust, and engagement. And so you want your blog to be “go-to blog” for chosen niche.
So that’s it!
Every time I setup a new blog, I always answer these 4 questions first before doing the next step. Yes, it takes time. But these things are your success multiplier. If done properly, there’s no other direction but winning.
